Announcing our new partnership with Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Caroline Purslow Caroline Purslow Programme Manager, Global Health Team View profile 29 Jan 2021 The Global Surgical Training Challenge team is pleased to announce a partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) to provide a mentorship programme to teams participating in the Challenge. The mentorship programme will include regular sessions with mentorship managers and subject matter experts as well as master classes and other tools. Topics will range from technical elements such as simulation technology and e-learning methodologies to soft skills coaching in project management and leadership development. “This collaboration will bring together RCSI’s expertise from around the world to support the teams in the Challenge,” says Catherine Mohr, president of Intuitive Foundation, the sponsor of the Challenge. “The teams will benefit from the structured and highly tailored approach to addressing the needs of each team, and incorporating a diversity of experience, expertise and opinion.” Founded as the national training body for surgery in Ireland, RCSI has been at the forefront of healthcare education and research since 1784. Today, it is an innovative, world-leading international health sciences university and the professional training body for surgery in Ireland. Surgery at RCSI supports a community of over 9,000 surgical Fellows and Members, practicing in 82 countries worldwide. “A structured mentorship and coaching programme will optimally position teams to deliver high impact projects during the course of this challenge prize,” says Eric O’Flynn of RCSI, “We are thrilled to contribute to fostering a sustainable surgical simulation community of practice in low-resource contexts, worldwide.” Ten teams were announced as the recipients of the Discovery Awards, the first phase of the Challenge, at an online event on 28 January 2021. The next major phase of the Global Surgical Training Challenge will be the awarding of the Finalist Awards in December 2021, followed by the announcement of the Grand Prize in December 2022.
